Guaifenesin Doseage

Postby Dianne » Mon Aug 11, 2008 1:26 pm

I have been taking 400 mg of guaif. in the morning and 1200 in the evening for about 4 months. The pharmacy makes up the capsules when I put in my prescription or renew it. I could tell a big difference in muscle pain the first month, however now my feet, after sitting for awhile, hurt the first few minutes of walking. It's like walking on gravel. I also have a place in the side of my foot in front of the ankle that from time to time starts burning like someone has held a cigarette lighter on the skin. It really hurts. Since I am getting new symptoms, would this indicate that my dosage of guaif. needs to be increased or is it something that will eventuallly go away as my body clears?

Foot pain and dosage

Postby Carolyn » Fri Jun 11, 2010 2:27 pm

Hi Dianne, there is all sorts of information about this in the Guai Support Group pages. Here's the link: http://fibromyalgiatreatment.com/newsgroup.htm

The administrators there can give you personal attention (unless you're a patient of Dr. St. Amand then you should ask his office directly).

A couple of points: it's usual for us to split our total daily dose in half, taking the same amount morning and evening. Is there a reason why you take such a small dose in the morning?

Also, foot pain is very, very common among fibromyalgics.

Hope this helps,

Carolyn in SoCal
